Dark Place

I am in a dark place

A dark space

Isolated from the world

And my breathing is laboured

Unable to give birth

To hope

I am unencumbered yet

Oppressed by a weight

That I did not expect

There is no forward momentum

For this thick fog obscures

My view

And my periphery offers

Acute angles that would force

Me into a shape

That is good for you

But not for me

My only option is to retreat

Over the bones that I have crawled

Admitting my mistake

Embracing the failure

And a return to the light

Thoughts

You don’t half moan, Monaghan. Cheer up!
