Fools Gold

Fools gold and a slice of

8 mm film

Both of dubious origins

And ultimately worthless

Kept in a tin on a shelf

In a cupboard next to the boiler

And long since forgotten

What happened to those artifacts

So precious to us

Do we still have them

Or were they replaced

By the next shiny thing

Or did we lose them

Or worse still, forget them

Gone without realising

Until five minutes ago

How much do we carry

Without ever knowing?

Thoughts

Continuing on from yesterday, I thought about an old rock and a bit of 8mm film that had various images of a woman’s face. I had no idea who it was. Was it a home movie? A commercial release? Nobody knew and it has long since vanished and yet it came to mind forty years later. What is that all about? Our memories are magic.

Today’s picture is of Crowded House performing at Lincoln Castle in 2025. I’d seen them 31 years earlier in Manchester and the memories of that gig came flooding back in an instant. We were so much younger then.

I appreciate the picture should have been of The Stone Roses, what with the title today but I never saw them. I had a chance to go to Spike Island but didn’t get there. I can’t remember why though.
