I Know That You Are

I know that you are finding it hard

You are in darkness

Under pressure and crushed

But know this

At the bottom of the deepest ocean

In the blackness, where

light does not reach

No air only a suffocating weight

There are creatures that live

Not only survive but thrive

I’m not saying they love it

They don’t have a big TV

A sofa or an iPhone

But the weight upon them

Isn’t a soul sucking job

Or a loveless marriage

For what do they know of love?

They are in the moment

And the moment is good

Thoughts

I recognise that so much of my writing is about darkness and our ability to live within it. This is obviously ridiculous when you consider I live a charmed life. But there is something in each of us that we wrestle with, even when things are going well. This picture makes me think of it. The person is safe while the storm is raging around them. What does that have to say to us?
