Last Night

As I was lying in bed

In that moment between waking and sleeping

The opening line of today’s poem

Dropped like a gift into my head

It was the perfect opening

Maybe the greatest of all time

And here it was, all mine

Waiting patiently behind my eyes

I don’t need to get up

To make a note, I’ll remember

It’s the kind of thing

That once heard will stay with you

For the rest of your life

I will sit back and wonder

Did I dream it

Forget it

Or let  slip away

Thoughts

I have these moments in bed where I come up with genius ideas. It’s when I’m falling asleep. I think, it’s so good I’ll easily remember it but of course I don’t. This is because it wasn’t very good in the first place. The good ideas hang around so don’t worry about it.
