Speed

My life is set on varispeed

I am not in control of it

Hurtling through time and finding

The future without ever trying

My list is getting longer

But the days are now shorter

And I cannot achieve

These dreams made in January

For that month has vanished

In such a way, I’m unsure

If it’s ever happened

As you get older you

Celebrate two Christmases each year

I fear this is true for me

But it seems that way too

For my children complaining of the same

They remember being younger

Even though they are only ten

But they remain hopeful

For the future and

I can pretend

Thoughts

This poem speaks of time speeding up. I thought this was an old person thing. Friends with twenty years on me spoke about celebrating Christmas twice a year. But it seems that my students also feel it. If this is the case, how much are they missing out on?

The picture is from the working title of my first solo album. I eventually decided against it as it felt a bit depressing. In the end, I went with the much more optimistic “Life Mid Crisis”. It was my first attempt at recording, mixing and playing everything and as a result it was technically garbage. If you have a copy on CD, I would like to thank you for your encouragement and apologise.
