When Was The Last Time

When was the last time you experienced silence?

It feels almost impossible to escape the noise

So many things pull

Demanding our attention

Work

Phone

Friends

Family

Even now in the quietest room in the house

I hear the kitchen clock ticking

The inconsistent hum of the fridge

And the scratch of my pen

I let it all go

And become aware of my breath

Transporting me into my secret room

Where I lock the door

Still my mind

And meet with the unseen

Thoughts

I live in a pretty quiet place but there is always noise. As I type this I hear the monitor and computer fan, the tap of my fingers on the keyboard. The wind outside and the hum of the central heating.

This beach offered a moment of silence. A church can do the same. Where is your silent place?
