In the Dark

I turn off the light

And watch it change from white

To blue, then red to black

And my room has gone

Dissolving into the darkness

My brain tells me it is still there

But my eyes tell a different tale

What if, in the dark

Everything goes

My curtains and clothes

The wardrobe and carpets

All break apart and are scattered

To be stored in a celestial storage unit

For rendering my room is a waste of resources

When I am not there to enjoy it

Instead, we build new worlds in my dreams

Where I can share them with you

And so many other others who all

See their world disappear

In the dark

Thoughts

The clock on my phone changes from blue to red and then turns off when I turn off my decide light at night. This was the inspiration for the opening lines of today’s poem.

Likewise the picture from an Elbow concert in Nottingham in 2024 shows how lights can dance so beautifully around a room. It’s magic!
