Did They Tell You

Did they tell you that you could be anything?

They were right

Look what you’ve become

Are you proud of what you’ve achieved?

How it all fell into place

Hard work and commitment carrying you through

Or did you not make it?

Even though you thought you were special

It didn’t quite work out

Instead, you were left with a series of unfulfilling jobs

Each one looking better than the last

But taking you further away

From the dream you once had

Or were you that church kid

Where God had a plan for you

To be the next Moses

But you’re stuck in an office

Not parting seas

Thoughts

Somethings are not in your control no matter what well meaning people told you as a child. I once went to the top of a mountain for a spectacular view. This is what I got.

You cannot be anything. You can only be you. It’s a terrible cliche but I think it’s true. (Oops. Inadvertently wrote a cliched poem)
