Careers Advice

I am a square peg

Trying to fit in what I am told

Is a square hole

By people who have moulded

Me in their image

To ensure conformity

And job security

But I do not fit

I look the same, but my brain

Works in a peculiar way

I’m no square peg

Rather a folded and scolded

Misshapen person

Whose edges were broken

When violently spoken to

as a young child

Take time to smooth out the creases

And review the pieces

Look once again at the person inside

Thoughts

I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I left school. I still don’t. For a while I thought I would be a guitar builder but I got fed up of that and moved on to something else.
