Well-being

There are times when I am able to hold a sense of impending doom alongside a feeling of immense well-being

As if this is the human condition

The face of reality

Unmedicated and honest

Balanced on the finest edge

Maybe here is where we should live

Not trying to escape to the future or hide in the past

Hold the pain in your chest

With knowledge of 1000 lifetimes

Experienced or ignored

All within this moment

Recognise what is and what is not

As it dances across your skin

Giving you everything and nothing

Thoughts

Seeing the Space Shuttle launch in June 2007 was one of the most amazing and emotional things I’ve ever witnessed. We were down the coast at Cocoa Beach surrounded by locals and other tourists. Somebody spotted the ball of fire in the distance and we all cheered. Eventually a slow rumble started to build as the sound of the spacecraft reverberated through the air, sea and land. The power was incredible.

I was overwhelmed by an immense feeling of well-being alongside a sense of impending doom. We had grown up knowing that sometimes things go wrong. We’d seen it in real time but on this occasion everything went well and the crew headed into space.
