Seaford Beach
How easy we can be deceived
Looking out I could see
Three lines separating me
From the sky
The first was man-made
Feet planted firm on some
Form of concrete, compressed
To give the impression of permanence
The second was pebble
And shingle and seashell
Echoes of something much larger
Made smaller and smoother
By time and the elements
The third was the sea
Life-giving and taking
Richly expressive in movement
And motion, emotionless yet
Prone to anger and calm
And then in the distance
The sky in its stillness
Ten miles away and
Yet here by my side

Thoughts
This poem was inspired by this view and the clear delineation between its composite parts.
