To All

Today has been a good day

I’ve eaten well

And drunk clean water

Without having to dig or draw

I have been warm

Even though it is winter

And I get to watch the ice thaw

From my sofa, in a T-shirt

I have walked the local

Streets without fear

Nobody has threatened me or

Tried to take my home

Due to my ethnicity

My neighbour has not exploded

In the middle of the night

Because of petulant, weak men

Nor have they been shot and

Killed and when I ask why

I am met with silence

I think my life is normal

Yet it is not normal for most

Both now or at any time before

So how can we offer it to all?

Thoughts

It can be hard to comment on an injustice when you are not in a position to do anything about it. That can lead to a feeling of helplessness and middle class guilt. How can we live better and make things better in our locality?
