Held

Some people know what they want to be

Others, like me, take a more scenic route

As they sample the fruit of

The tree of knowledge

Safe in the thought that if they don’t

Like it, or become bored, they

Can move on with just a months notice

Work abroad and live as an artist

Painting and sculpting the fantastic feelings

That flow through their veins

There is no shame in waiting on tables

If in the gaps you are working on fables

A modern retelling of all of the

Classics to help give meaning to a

Generation hooked on social media and sertraline

Of this, I am certain

Finding your way is hard and everyone struggles

With unexpected weights that

Are placed across your shoulders

Find someone or something to hold onto

And hold you

For in the end

We all want to be held

Thoughts

Jenny Saville is one of my favourite artists and her exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery was one of my highlights of the year. Her ability to observe and translate into paint is staggering.
