A Thousand Words

A thousand words today

but there is room for more

There is always room for more

in a world of abundance

and that is where we live

yet we see only scarcity

It’s mine

I need

I want

Keep your problems

on the continent

Pah!

I wish I could build a bridge

It’s easy in the abstract but

I need

to start with me and

I appear

to have lost my trowel

A Thousand Words

Thoughts

My eyes hurt after writing all day. I managed a thousand words. which prompted the poem. Then it went off on one.

I have compassion for those who flee their homeland to try and find a better life here. I also have compassion for my fellow countrymen who have been squeezed and ignored and looked down upon. I have worked with the homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics and those seeking asylum. They have one thing in common: they have all suffered. Easy answers or lazy stereotypes does nothing to help. The only winners in the blame game are those taking your money. Watch out for those rabble rousing cowards who are in it for themselves.

What can I do to help? I honestly don’t know.
