Birthday

Fifty years ago

I got a matchbox race track

fastened it firm to my widow sill

and sent cars hurtling through

loop the loops

and crashing through the finish line

It’s one of my earliest memories

all the sweeter for I also got

a little brother

whom I celebrate

today and always

Birthday

Thoughts

This is how my garden looked 9 years ago. I can tell you now, it has aged terribly. Come forth rain. Soak our skin and rejuvenate us once again. For the record, my brother and I are aging like fine wine.
