A Friend

A friend asked

had my poetry improved

over the last year?

No

I replied

I gave up

in January

but I kept on

writing

Thoughts

I realised back in January that I didn’t want to be a poet. But the discipline of writing each day has been useful. As I approach the end of the writing year, I look back with pride, even if a lot of the poems are garbage. It doesn’t matter. Sometimes we learn more in the doing than in what is done.

Shaping a guitar neck. I used to love this. Very satisfying.
